Case Title: Abused and Violated

Case Title: Abused and Violated
In a quiet neighborhood, hidden behind closed doors, lies a heartbreaking tale of survival, pain, and silent endurance. For eleven long years, Mrs. Wife lived with Mr. Husband, and four of those years were under a legal marriage. Together, they have three children between the ages of 4 and 11. What looked like a typical family from the outside masked a terrifying reality inside.

From the beginning, Mr. Husband had a pattern: violent mood swings, emotional manipulation, and a fierce desire to control. Mrs. Wife endured beatings, starvation, insults, and degradation. Her cries for help often went unanswered. She was not only battered physically but also financially crippled. She was made to watch her children suffer—terrified, hungry, and denied access to medical care when sick. Any attempt at resistance was met with harsher punishment. Sometimes, even the children were beaten for trying to protect their mother or simply for crying during her abuse.
When she tried to reclaim her life, she ran to stay with an aunt in Ikeja. Family and friends came together to raise money—not just for rent, but for a new start. She chose to invest in herself, in a trade she knew very well—the Garri business. With great resilience, she began buying in bulk from Delta and Edo states and supplying retailers across Lagos. She was slowly getting back on her feet.
Then came the apology. The tears. The sweet words. Mr. Husband came pleading for her to return. He promised change. He even offered to support her business with ₦1,000,000. Against her better judgment, and for the sake of the children, she returned. It didn’t take long before the old habits resurfaced.
He resented her success. He questioned every step she took, demanded control over her income—even dictated what she could eat on her business trips. In his words, “I can’t live to see my wife richer than me.” He took over her business finances and drained her of her capital. The Garri business collapsed under his grip.
What followed were months of torture. She was often locked outside the house late at night with her children—left stranded and afraid. He beat her repeatedly. The most horrific was in March, when during one of his attacks, he punched her face until she bled. Then, in a chilling act of cruelty, he slashed her clothes with a knife and raped her in their home. Later, he begged her to delete the evidence—the photos she had managed to take. He later confiscated and formatted her phone.
By now, Mrs. Wife had no money, no family strong enough to intervene, and no voice—until someone directed her to Fix Marriage Foundation (FMF).
